This black tea is simply fabulous. Grown in a mountainous region of Hunan province in China, this tea does well honor to the reputation of this region. Indeed, Hunan province has been recognized for centuries for producing some of the best teas in China. Production is spread throughout the province with plantations in almost all counties, towns and villages.
The first thing you will notice about this tea is the superb golden color of the new buds. These are picked very early in the morning, then sorted by hand.
Monkey Picked Golden black tea produces a tasty and delicate cup with light, velvety oak notes accompanied by a lingering toast finish.
If you're wondering, this tea isn't actually picked by monkeys. This name comes from a legend which says that some tea plants producing exceptional tea were located in places inaccessible to humans. Farmers then used monkeys to harvest these precious leaves from the rugged mountains. This story is only a legend and monkeys were probably never used to harvest tea. Rather, the meaning of this term is that it is a rare tea of exceptional quality grown at high altitude.
